Hello my lovely people! Let’s get into the latest episode of Insecure. Season 5 episode 2 “Growth, Okay?!” has Issa, Molly and crew 1 year later in their lives. Issa’s business has hit 10K followers on instagram, Molly is doing meditation and doing better at her new job. This particular episode I want to talk about 3 moments. 1. Issa is finally finding her groove with her business and making some pretty big moves. She finds herself stumbling a bit when she is working on an event with a local fashion designer, Crenshawn (played by the beautiful Kofi Siriboe. ) Crenshawn wants to be completely authentic, but the company she is working with wants to make a few changes to the designer’s concept. When Issa takes the notes to the designer, he accuses her of not really being for the culture and being a sell out. This kind of hit home for me in a way. Being a Black person in corporate America, means there are a lot of times when you feel you have to bite your tongue in a lot of situations or sometimes, always be the person to speak up when you see some foul things going down. You do feel sometimes that you are letting yourself or your people down by not speaking up or letting some comments slide. 2. Molly is trying to get back into the dating world, and when she has to update her dating profile, she becomes stuck. She doesn’t know how to answer the questions regarding what she is looking for or what dating her would be like. There are definitely times where I wonder myself exactly what am I looking for in that special person, which then makes me think, well if you don’t know how can you expect to find them or have them find you? 3. Issa asks Nathan to stay the night, and then cries when she starts to kiss him because she realizes she isn’t quite as ready or over her relationship with Lawrence. I think we all can relate to trying to move on to the next person, but still being caught up on the last person. Thinking you are over it, but then realizing you still have some feelings that you quite haven’t let go yet. Let’s talk. How did you like episode 2 and were there any moments that stood out to you? See you next week. From Jaime With Love.
