Talk Tuesday

Talk Tuesday

This might be the “Talk Tuesday” that falls right before Christmas, but this one isn’t dedicated to the holiday. No no, this one is dedicated to THE CLASSIC “Waiting To Exhale.” Today marks their 25th anniversary! It is extremely hard to believe I was a 10 year old watching this movie, but clearly I was. Boy oh Boy what a movie, what a SOUNDTRACK! For those who are somehow not familiar with this movie, it is based off a book with the same title by Terry McMillian. Waiting To Exhale follows 4 friends in their everyday lives of family, love and careers. Yes, before Sex and the City, there was Waiting to Exhale! There is Bernadine, Savannah, Gloria and Robin! This movie gave us so much. So many one liners that we still repeat to this day “Get your shit, Get your shit and GET OUT!” and tons more! Despite me being only 10 years old when this movie came out, I have watched this movie so many times over the years and in different stages of my life. Clearly when it first came out, I knew nothing, nada about what these women were really going through (even if in my mind I thought I did) but now, boy can I relate to really all of them. I’ve seen a black woman being left or cheated on with a white woman. I’ve been in the situation where you wanted someone but they weren’t the one for you. I’ve dealt with disrespectful men who treated you like they could just walk in and out of your life. I’ve been the girl falling in love and getting butterflies. I have had those oh so fun nights with my girlfriends and have had those not so fun moments when one of us was really going through something. It’s a timeless movie, a classic movie and a movie that provided us with one of the best soundtracks ever made! The Waiting To Exhale soundtrack is easily top 3 for me when it comes to soundtracks and it ain’t 2 or 3. Babyface gave us so much with this album. I mean Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, Pattie LaBelle, Brandy, Toni Braxton, Chaka Khan, Mary J Blige, TLC to just name a few. “My Love, Sweet Love” by Pattie is one of my absolute favorite songs in the entire world and can cause me to shed a tear anytime I listen to it. “Not Gon’ Cry” by MJB is THE heartbreak song to belt out! Whitney gives us the classic Exhale and one of my favorites “Why does it hurt so bad” I mean I could go on and on, but I will just leave it at “It’s a damn good album.” So this post is dedicated to Angela Bassett (who gave us some of the best acting we have ever seen), Whitney Houston, Loretta Devine and Lela Rochon. Let’s Talk, what is your favorite scene from the movie or favorite song from the soundtrack? From Jaime With Love
