I haven’t written in nearly a month. I must do better. However with that being said… let’s talk about Black Lives Mattering! As a black woman, there would be no way for me to not use my blog and discuss this topic and everything that is going on right now. As a black woman I have not only witnessed racism, but have endured it as well. It is extremely frustrating to see black people treated less than over and over again and being told to “get over it” or being told that racism does not exist. My parents lived in a time where segregation existed, so despite what people believe it’s not so “far far away” We have never received reparations despite us being set back for generations. There are still families who are living off of “family money” where the family money came directly from being plantation, cotton mill and slave owners. The death of George Floyd set the flame to many years of being overlooked and disrespected, but he unfortunately was not the first instance. There are so many instances of police brutality against black people. There are so many instances of black murders that go without justice being served. Too many to name and yet we owe it to them to never forget their names! This last week their were hundreds of protests in every state and internationally. There were also riots and it amazed me how many people were more upset about their stores than they were about the reason the protests and riots were happening to begin with. There were white people who I thought were friends, that were noticeably quiet about the injustices that were happening to my people. With that being said, it made me extremely proud to see people everywhere hit the pavement and use their voices to protest and say “Enough is Enough.” Petitions to make changes. Demands that are being yelled loudly that say we are not going back! We demand and expect change. Enough is Enough!
